Too Many Pinkie Pies, part 1

The milokedromorphic spell is considered to be a keystone for any unicorn who aspires to master the art of transfiguration. If one can transform an apple into an orange completely and consistently, then one is ready to move up to more complex transformations of living creatures.

This spell is the entirety of Twilight's coursework for the week, and as far as she's concerned it's more than enough. She's been studying the theory behind it for three days, and trying to put it into practice all morning, without success. She almost had it half an hour ago, but Pinkie's surprise hug threw her aim off and she ended up transfiguring a blue jay in a nearby tree instead. (The jay should turn back to normal tomorrow morning. Probably.)

She feels good about this time, though. Twilight takes a deep breath and takes careful aim at the apple on the table in front of her.

"One...two..."

Before Twilight can get to three, Pinkie enters with a leap, bouncing right off Twi's back.

The bolt of magic flies far off the mark, ricocheting off a tree branch to hit a frog sitting on a lily pad. Said frog is now much rounder and higher in Vitamin C than it was a moment ago.

"PINKIE!"

Riochetting toward a stop, Pinkie manages to dig an impressive furrow into the ground before finally halting. She checks a stopwatch strapped to her right frontmost hoof.

"What in the wide, wide world of Equestria are you doing now??"

And can she do it somewhere else, preferably where she won't be running into anypony?

Pft, as if that's possible, Twilight! Pinkie just bounces right toward her.

"Timing myself galloping back and forth between the swimming hole and Sweet Apple Acres! I'm trying to cut down on my time so that when Rainbow Dash dives off the swing, I can get to Sweet Apple Acres to help with the barn raising, and be back in time to see Rainbow Dash hit the water after doing a double flip!"

...Nope, she didn't even take one breath. She picks up the stopwatch and looks at it.

"If I can only cut my time by twenty minutes, I'm good!"

Twilight can't help but chuckle. Pinkie wants to be a part of everything going on in Ponyville so badly...

"Oh, Pinkie. I'm afraid no matter how hard you try, the only way to pull something like that off is if there's more of you to go around."

*Tick* goes Pinkie's brain.

Followed by tok tok tok.

"THAT'S IT, TWILIGHT!"

Enjoy being tackled!

"The legend of the mirrorpool!"

And she's already bouncing away!

"Legend of the who-whatnow? Pinkie?" Twilight calls after her, but if the pink pony is still in earshot she doesn't give any indication of coming back and giving an explanation. "I'm familiar with loads of legends," Twilight murmurs to herself, "and I've never heard of--"

"Does this mean practice is over?" says Spike hopefully.

"Of course not! Back to work."

Spike pouts. So much for that idea.
